There are a fuck load of opinions on this topic, and I could blab on for hours about personal property rights and freedom of religion, or the hypocrisy of NOT protesting Catholic Churches near elementary schools, but I am going to refrain. I thought maybe an Atheist perspective was in order.
The first thought I had when I heard about the "controversy" was, "O fucking lovely, we needed another monument to irrationality." I see this as the equivalent of complaining that the Alter of Sacrifice was TOO close to the village. It doesn't matter what color the alter is, it is still a fucking alter of sacrifice.
